Purchasing Supervisor (Mechanical & Heavy Equipment)


Job Summary

The Purchasing Supervisor is responsible for managing procurement activities related to mechanical parts, tools, spare parts, and heavy equipment. The role ensures cost-effective

sourcing, timely delivery, supplier reliability, and compliance with company procurement policies. The position requires strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems and heavy equipment to ensure accurate specifications and quality standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Purchasing

  • Oversee end-to-end purchasing of mechanical parts, consumables, and heavy equipment
  • Review and validate purchase requisitions for technical accuracy and completeness
  • Source, evaluate, and negotiate with local and international suppliers
  • Ensure timely procurement of equipment, spare parts, and maintenance materials
  • Monitor purchase orders and delivery schedules to avoid operational delays

Supplier Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and service providers
  • Conduct supplier evaluation based on price, quality, delivery, and service performance
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to achieve cost savings
  • Handle supplier issues, claims, and performance concerns

Technical Coordination

  • Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to understand technical requirements
  • Ensure correct specifications for mechanical and heavy equipment purchases
  • Evaluate technical proposals and compare alternatives based on efficiency and durability
  • Assist in identifying replacement parts and compatible equipment

Inventory & Cost Control

  • Monitor stock levels of critical spare parts and equipment
  • Work with warehouse and maintenance teams to prevent overstocking or stockouts
  • Support budgeting and cost control initiatives
  • Analyze purchasing trends and recommend cost-saving strategies

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate procurement records, purchase orders, and supplier contracts
  • Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and audit requirements
  • Prepare reports on procurement activities, savings, and supplier performance


Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • 35 years experience in procurement, preferably in heavy equipment, construction, mining, or manufacturing industries
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment parts, and industrial materials
  • Experience in supplier negotiation and contract management


Skills & Competencies

  • Technical understanding of heavy equipment and mechanical components
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in specifications
  • Knowledge of procurement systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar is an advantage)
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
