Purpose
The Insolvency Administrator is responsible for managing corporate insolvency and restructuring engagements, ensuring compliance with Australian insolvency laws and statutory requirements. This role works closely with company directors, creditors, legal advisors, and regulatory bodies to facilitate formal insolvency processes, protect stakeholder interests, and support businesses facing financial distress. The position also provides guidance to junior team members while delivering efficient, professional, and commercially sound solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of formal and informal insolvency and restructuring appointments, including liquidations, voluntary administrations, receiverships, and related engagements.
- Conduct investigations, asset recovery activities, and statutory reporting in accordance with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with company directors, creditors, legal advisors, financial institutions, and regulatory agencies, including ASIC and the ATO.
- Prepare and review reports, financial assessments, creditor communications, and other insolvency-related documentation.
- Monitor case progression, ensuring all appointments are administered accurately, efficiently, and within required timelines.
- Delegate and review work completed by junior team members, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Mentor and assist junior staff in developing technical knowledge and professional skills.
- Identify risks, issues, and potential recovery opportunities, and recommend appropriate strategies for resolution.
- Maintain accurate records and case files while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory obligations.
- Contribute to business development initiatives by fostering strong stakeholder relationships and identifying referral opportunities.
- Manage multiple engagements simultaneously while maintaining high-quality service delivery and attention to detail.
- Stay updated on changes to Australian insolvency legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
Qualifications/ Requirements of the job
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Legal Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Completion of or progress toward CA, CPA, and/or ARITA qualifications is highly preferred.
- 36 years of experience in corporate insolvency, restructuring, turnaround management, or a related field.
- Proven experience managing insolvency files from commencement through completion.
- Previous experience working within insolvency firms, accounting firms, financial advisory firms, or legal support environments.
- Strong understanding of liquidation, voluntary administration, bankruptcy, and debt recovery processes.
- In-depth knowledge of Australian insolvency legislation, including the Corporations Act, Bankruptcy Act, and ASIC/AFSA compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder presentations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and complex cases in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong commercial awareness and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with clients, creditors, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Experience using accounting and financial systems such as:
- Xero
- MYOB
- QuickBooks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
