Purpose of the Job

• The rigger at Colas Rail Philippines Inc. is responsible for the safe and efficient handling, movement, and positioning of heavy materials and equipment used in rail construction and maintenance projects
• This role ensures all lifting operations comply with safety regulations and project requirements, supporting the successful execution of infrastructure works
• The rigger works closely with crane operators, engineers, and site supervisors to facilitate the proper setup and securing of loads, minimizing risks and ensuring smooth site operations

Responsibilities

• Includes but not limited to the following:
• Prepare, inspect, and maintain rigging equipment such as ropes, cables, chains, slings, and shackles to ensure safety and reliability
• Secure loads for lifting, moving, and positioning using cranes or hoisting equipment, following approved rigging plans and safety protocols
• Coordinate with crane operators, signalers, and site supervisors to ensure precise and safe load handling during lifting operations
• Conduct site inspections to assess rigging requirements and identify potential hazards or obstacles
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations during rigging activities
• Assist in the assembly and disassembly of scaffolding, structures, or heavy equipment as needed
• Report any equipment defects or safety concerns promptly to supervisors
• Maintain accurate records of rigging operations, inspections, and maintenance activities
• Participate in safety briefings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and regulatory requirements

Educational Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is generally required
• Vocational training or certification in rigging, lifting operations, or heavy equipment handling is preferred
• Relevant safety training certifications such as OSHA, working at heights, or rigging and lifting safety are highly desirable
• Basic knowledge of mechanical principles and load dynamics is advantageous
• Previous experience in railway construction, infrastructure projects, or similar industrial environments is a plus

Desired Knowledge / Experience

• Practical experience in rigging operations, including the safe handling, securing, and movement of heavy loads
• Knowledge of rigging equipment such as slings, chains, shackles, ropes, and lifting devices
• Familiarity with safety regulations and standards related to rigging and lifting operations (e.g., OSHA, local safety codes)
• Experience working in construction, infrastructure, or railway projects is a plus
• Ability to read and interpret rigging plans and lifting diagrams
• Strong understanding of load dynamics, weight distribution, and mechanical advantage principles
• Good communication skills for effective coordination with crane operators, supervisors, and team members
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including working at heights and in various weather conditions
• Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency response procedures is beneficial
