Technical Skills (The "Hard" Skills)


A specialist must be proficient in the "back-end" systems that keep the company running.

  • Payroll Software (HRIS/HCM): Proficiency in platforms.
  • Tax Knowledge: A deep understanding of local, state, and federal tax withholding, including social security, unemployment taxes, and garnishments.
  • Excel Mastery: They should be comfortable with VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and complex formulas to audit large datasets quickly.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of the DOLE Labor Code regarding overtime, minimum wage, and exempt vs. non-exempt classifications.


Compensation & Benefits Mastery ("CompenBen")

In many organizations, payroll and benefits are intertwined. A specialist should understand:

  • Benefit Deductions: Managing government statutory contributions such as SSS, Philhealth and HDMF, and other necessary deductions.
