An Inpatient Coder specializes in coding the medical

for Medicare & Medicaid

Services (CMS) and The Joint Commission.

  Communicating with Healthcare Professionals: They often collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other

healthcare personnel to clarify information and receive additional

documentation if needed.


  Auditing and Quality Control: Some

Inpatient Coders may be involved in auditing

the coding for quality assurance, ensuring that the codes reflect

the documentation accurately and are compliant with policies.

  Staying Informed: They must stay updated

with coding guidelines, medical terminology, and advancements in healthcare regulations.
