Description
Responsibilities
- Review inpatient medical records including H&P, discharge summaries, operative reports, and progress notes
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes
- Ensure compliance with official coding guidelines, CMS, and payer policies
- Query physicians for documentation clarification when necessary
- Maintain coding accuracy, productivity, and quality benchmarks
- Participate in coding audits and respond to audit findings
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
- Work closely with CDI, billing, and compliance teams
- Graduate of any health-related course (Nursing, HIM, Allied Health preferred)
- Active coding certification (CPC, CCS, CIC, or equivalent)
- At least 12 years experience in inpatient coding
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS
- Familiarity with DRG, MS-DRG, and hospital reimbursement
- High attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to meet productivity and accuracy targets
