Job Description:

The Merchandiser (Butcher) is responsible for preparing, cutting, and displaying meat products in an attractive and sanitary manner to maximize sales. This role combines traditional butchering skills with merchandising strategies to ensure meat products meet customer expectations in quality, freshness, and presentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Meat Preparation & Cutting:

- Cut, trim, debone, and portion meat (poultry) according to customer needs and company standards.

- Use knives, and other meat-processing equipment safely and efficiently.

• Merchandising & Display:

- Arrange and replenish meat displays attractively to promote product sales.

- Ensure displays are full, clean, and labeled correctly with pricing and product information.

- Monitor and rotate stock to ensure freshness and reduce waste (FIFO method).

• Customer Service:

- Assist customers with meat selections, provide recommendations, and fulfill custom cutting orders.

- Address customer inquiries professionally and ensure satisfaction.

• Quality Control & Sanitation:

- Inspect meat for quality, freshness, and correct labeling.

- Follow all food safety and hygiene standards, including cleaning tools, surfaces, and equipment.

- Adhere to HACCP and company safety guidelines.

• Inventory & Ordering:

- Assist with inventory checks, stock ordering, and receiving of meat products.

- Report low stock or quality issues to management promptly.

• Qualifications:

- Proven experience as a butcher or meat cutter is a plus.

- High school graduates or college level education are allowed.

- Knowledge of meat cuts, butchering techniques, and food safety practices.

- Physically fit and able to lift heavy items and work in cold environments.

- Strong communication and customer service skills.

- Basic math skills for accurate weighing, pricing, and inventory control.

- Ability to work in a team-oriented and fast-paced retail environment.

- Willingness to learn and follow company procedures and hygiene standards.
