The Objective The Telecom CAD Designer / QA Specialist is the critical final link in the engineering process. This role ensures that every Construction Drawing (CD) set for telecom projects is technically sound, visually consistent, and 100% compliant with client and jurisdictional standards. You will balance active drafting with rigorous auditing to deliver high-quality design packages that move straight to construction without revisions.
The Responsibilities
- Drafting and Redlining: Perform hands-on drafting in AutoCAD to incorporate engineer redlines and markups into active drawing sets.
- CD Set Production: Support the creation of full Construction Drawing packages, including site plans, elevations, and detail sheets.
- Quality Assurance (QA): Conduct meticulous reviews of drawings to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to specific client standards.
- Compliance Checks: Verify that all designs meet jurisdictional requirements and telecom-specific engineering codes.
- Data and Version Tracking: Use Microsoft Excel to manage QA checklists, track revision history, and log project coordination efforts.
- Issue Resolution: Collaborate directly with engineers and project managers to resolve comments and discrepancies found during the QA process.
The Requirements
- Experience: 2 to 3 years of professional experience in CAD drafting, specifically within the telecom or civil infrastructure sectors.
- Software Access: Candidates must have their own valid access to AutoCAD software to perform drafting and QA updates.
- Technical Skill: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (layers, Xrefs, viewports) and Microsoft Excel (tracking logs and checklists).
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional "eye" for detailthe ability to catch minor errors in scale, text, or technical symbols that others might miss.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal and English communication skills to effectively interface with US-based engineering teams and project managers.
- Work Habit: A highly organized approach to managing multiple project folders and version-controlled files.
The Daily Workflow
Step 1: Receive raw redline markups from the engineering team.
Step 2: Update the AutoCAD files to reflect all requested engineering changes.
Step 3: Run the QA Checklist in Excel to verify that all client-specific standards (layers, fonts, title blocks) are met.
Step 4: Cross-reference the CAD set against zoning and lease documents to ensure data consistency.
Step 5: Finalize the package and update the project tracker to notify the team the set is ready for submittal.
